And of course, don’t forget to thank the dogs after the ride with a gentle, affectionate pat. Who knows? Maybe next time you’ll want to try learning how to drive the sled yourself!

Learning to drive a dog sled is first and foremost about learning to communicate with your dogs. During the activity, the dogs cannot see the musher, so all communication relies on the voice. More than the words themselves, it’s the tone that matters.

Of course, you will also need to learn how to use your whole body to guide the sled. Everything is involved—legs, hips, arms… It’s a true physical sport! You will need to actively support your team throughout the ride: shifting your center of gravity in turns, pushing on climbs to help your dogs, and more.

Driving a dog sled requires both physical and mental engagement. Motivation, a bit of perseverance, and plenty of enthusiasm are all you need to succeed!
