What winter activities can you do in Haute-Savoie?
There are plenty of winter activities in Haute-Savoie, so you can enjoy the mountains in different ways. Whether you fancy a snowshoe walk, a toboggan run, a dogsled taster session or even snow mountain biking, you can mix sport and fun.
Around Annecy, snow turns the higher ground into a place to explore. Outings can be arranged for families, couples or groups of friends. Whatever your plan, the scenery sets the scene for memorable moments.
The choice is not limited to the area around Lake Annecy. Snowshoe outings take place at Semnoz. Dogsledding is available on the Revard plateau, at 1,500 metres above sea level and roughly halfway between Annecy and Chambéry. Ski joëring and sled outings take place on the La Féclaz plateaux, near Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains.
A selection suited to every kind of outing
For a family outing, you are usually looking for something accessible, friendly and suitable for all ages. Snowshoe walks, toboggan runs and dogsled taster sessions are a great fit.
For a group outing, you may be after more of a thrill, such as snow mountain biking, or ski joëring. And if you are looking for a relaxing break, a Nordic bath is the ideal option!
In both cases, our winter activities focus on the natural setting and non-motorised travel. They offer a different view of the mountains, away from the crowds around the ski lifts depending on the outing.
Our activities to enjoy the snow, even without skiing
Snowshoe walks
Snowshoes spread your weight over a wider surface, making it easier to walk on snow. This nature activity takes place in the hills above Annecy, with family or friends, along a route chosen according to the group’s level and the condition of the terrain.
This winter mountain activity favours a steady pace and time to observe the seasonal landscape. It works just as well for a gentle first experience in the mountains as for a more demanding hike.
“The guides were fantastic, both for the snowshoe activity and for the rest of the experience.” Clelia Grassot, customer review
Tobogganing
A toboggan descent combines gliding with pure fun. Several options may be available, including the paret, the evvy or the airboard. The choice depends on the packages available, the terrain and the expected level.
Ski joëring
Ski joëring is when a horse pulls a skier. The participant glides on skis while staying connected to the animal. This unusual activity requires following the instructor’s guidance and staying in tune with the pace of the team.
Dogsledding
Dogsledding offers a journey through snow-covered landscapes on the Revard plateau. The activity combines the movement of the sled team, meeting the dogs and explanations from the musher. It is a great choice for families, couples or friends.
“We had a brilliant time in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I would recommend this activity with friends, as a couple or with family.” Grousset Marie, customer review
Nordic bath
The Nordic bath gives you time to recover in heated water, surrounded by an idyllic winter setting. This wellness activity can round off a hike or another active experience.
Winter activities for thrill-seekers
Winter mountain activities can demand more physical effort or technique. Ski touring, ice climbing and snow mountain biking are aimed at different profiles looking for excitement and a sporting challenge.
Ski touring
Ski touring alternates uphill progress with skins under the skis and downhill skiing on natural snow. The outings available range from beginner to expert level, for half a day or a full day, in the Mont Blanc massif or in the heart of the Aravis. If you are looking for a ski activity focused on pure nature, this is a peaceful way to enjoy the mountains away from the crowds at the lifts.
Ice climbing
Ice climbing involves making your way up a frozen waterfall with specialised equipment. Sessions welcome both beginners and experienced climbers, depending on the site and the conditions. This sporting activity needs technical supervision, as the quality of the ice changes with the weather!
Snow mountain biking
Snow mountain biking uses very wide tyres to improve grip on snowy ground. This activity combines steering, balance and an understanding of the terrain. It is ideal for people looking for a different kind of glide, without using the same patterns as a ski activity.

The team answers information and booking requests Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm, as well as on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. This direct contact can help you choose the ideal activity for your needs.
You can choose snowshoeing, tobogganing, dogsledding, ski touring, snow mountain biking, ice climbing, ski joëring or a Nordic bath. The best choice depends on your level, the location, snowfall and the type of outing you want.
How do you choose between snowshoeing, tobogganing and dogsledding?
Choose snowshoes to walk in the middle of nature, tobogganing if you want gliding and fun, or dogsledding to discover travel with a sled team. Price, location, times and availability then help you decide between activities.
Can you book an activity if the weather changes?
Whether the outing can go ahead depends on snowfall, weather and safety conditions. Contact the team to check whether the activity is still running and what alternatives are available if conditions change.
