Sled dog racing has gradually become a worldwide recognized sport. While the first major race took place in 1908 in Alaska, today there are three main events held each year:

  • The Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont-Blanc: This international race brings together some of the greatest mushers in the world. The curves and slopes of our mountains make the race particularly technical and intense.

  • The Iditarod, established in 1973 in memory of Balto, one of the famous Siberian huskies who helped deliver diphtheria treatment to Nome. This race, held in Alaska, retraces the route taken by sled dog teams at that time. It is one of the most famous races in the world.

  • The Yukon Quest: This race honors the Gold Rush of the 1980s–90s. Taking place in the Yukon (Canada), the teams run over more than 1,600 km, encouraged by their mushers throughout the course.

There are three main types of races, based on distance: Sprint – short-distance race, Mid-distance – medium-length race, Long-distance – multi-day endurance race
Before participating in these races, mushers must be properly trained. They need both physical endurance and mental stamina, especially for long-distance events. These races involve traveling hundreds of kilometers over several days in extreme cold.
